Spring in the California Garden

Thank you Mother Nature for a winter of rain.  Plants and shrubs are blooming prolifically this spring.

The garden called this weekend and it was time to put some tomatoes into the garden.  Two beefsteaks (one an heirloom) and San Francisco Fog.

In doing some prep work, I discovered a very large beet!  Here it is root and all.  Look at those beautiful greens.
Beautiful beet from the garden atop a planting of thyme.

Daffodils--Sign That Spring is Near

California weather allows for the early blooming of bulbs. This little collection of blooms you can find in the bed at the front of the house. I happened to notice them just in time because some of the blooms are already spent.
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on
high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing
in the breeze.…

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads
in sprightly dance.

Bougainvillea

Lovely bougainvillea rambles up the structure of the house and roof. I love the spring green color of the shubbery against the cherry red of the bougainvillea.
