Flowers Go Wild When You Go Waterwise

When you go waterwise or California Friendly in your garden, you get a benefit beyond saving water.  I was at the nursery yesterday and found these two beautiful plantings.  This photo was taken at Roger's Gardens and they have planted most of their grounds in waterwise plants.  I'm feeling inspired.

Tuscan Bread Salad I made after attending the event.  Salad includes cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, olives, mozzarella, parsley, basil, and croutons in a red wine vinaigrette.

Over the weekend, Roger's Gardens hosted a local Chef to cook with herbs from the garden.  The event was well attended and the chef shared some wonderful recipes with us.  At the end, guests were invited to sample the food prepared.

Just got an email from Roger's Gardens.  This weekend is their Spring Opening 2011.

Saturday March 19 at 9 a.m.--Pat Walsh:  Grow Vegetables Year Round the Organic Way.  I have seen Ms Walsh present before at Roger's.  She is legend in California for her garden knowledge, author of several books, amazing.  Based on my previous experience, I highly recommend.

Saturday March 19 at 2:30 p.m.--Brian Blood:  Plein Air Art Techniques and Demonstration.

Sunday March 20 at 9 a.m.--Nicholas Staddon (director of new plants for Monrovia) Small Gardens/Big Ideas.

Sunday March 20 2 p.m.--Paul Fenner and Opal Sullivan Florals for your Wedding.

Succulents are the New Black

As water concerns in California continue to build, smart gardeners are embracing gardening which is not so reliant on water. Roger's Gardens, a premier gardening shop in Orange County, has been conducting seminars called Gardening Naturally on the weekend to learn how to garden with Nature.

Succulents are becoming more prevalent in landscape design. New installations showcase these hardy, drought tolerant plants.

Thanks to a comment from a reader, I am rethinking whether I will introduce the ice plant to my garden. Apparently, very invasive. We have a wonderful nursery near our home which specializes in native plants. I think I will stop by to get some recommendations from them.
