Beans and Gloom

Despite June Gloom, the beans are robustly climbing their jute twine to the sky!.  Down low, some of the buds have come and gone and created their lovely offspring.

Lovely Bean Volunteer

During the cold, rainy winter months, a small little bean seed sprouted.  And grew, and grew.

Now that the sunny warm weather of spring is here, this little volunteer is blooming prolifically.

Outgrowing the wooden stake, I added room for additional growth by tying a string to the top of the pole and then to a nearby light fixture.

l love to stake the bean plant at an angle because they dangle away from the leaves and become very easy to see during harvest.

From the Garden to the Freezer--Beans

Cutting Beans into two-inch sections for blanching.

After blanching (scalding) the beans for three minutes, a three minute ice bath and into the bags for freezing.

And for dinner tonight.
I gave beans away to everyone and decided it was time to freeze a few bags for after season use.  I blanched the beans, immersed them in an ice bath to stop the cooking, drained and blotted them dry and placed them into freezer bags.

I decided to make a small mess of beans for dinner tonight.

Saturday's Harvest

Purple Beans Turn Green During Cooking Process
Today's harvest was quite successful.  I love to see the green and purple beans on the vines.  So pretty.

Bean There, Done That

Lovely slender green beans and pale yellow flowers.

You can see the growth of the beans inside the undulating pod.

Shade cloth for lettuces growing on the inside of the bean trellis.

The vine wraps around the twine to grow vertically.

I've planted more than one variety.  This plant has white flowers.  I wish I had kept track of which beans are planted where...

One must look carefully to find all of the beans when picking them.

Just a little more growth before the transplant.
