I couldn't agree with you more especially when ours still have their leaves despite temps in the twenties. The reddish new leaves and bright red fruit gives color to an otherwise drab yard here in the NE. Of course you're green all year round unless you have drought so the effect is not quite a dramatic as it is here for us color starved northerners?

I should post a photo of the nandinas from the front garden. They are loaded with bright red berries. Awesome.
