We live at the top of a very small canyon. About this time each year, we have the hillside groomed to remove excess plant growth (otherwise known as fuel). Because California is prone to wildfires, most homeowners do this as a precaution. I ventured down to the bottom of the canyon today to see what work was going to need to be done and discovered thistle growing in the wild at the bottom.
