Interestingly, because we are located within ten miles of the San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station (SONGS), a government agency sent us potassium iodide pills a few years ago. In the event of a breach in the nuclear reactor (and upon instruction from authorities), we are to take the pill to protect our thyroids from uptake in radioactive material. We also have an permanent evacuation plan to head to the Orange County Fairgrounds.
