Photogenic Dragonfly

Again I am in my garden and find a dragonfly buzzing around. The dragonfly alights on the tomato cage. I approach with camera in hand, all the while fingering the buttons to enable the macrophoto setting without looking away from the dragonfly. But not to worry, this insect likes to have its photo taken. I literally had the camera four inches from its head. It moved not a inch. I was able to take several shots of it and I share my favorites with you.

I believe this might be a female dragonfly because it is much browner (not as flambuoyant) than the speciman I published before.

Watch this video with still photos and action video of the dragonfly.

What a super post! Your little movie is lots of fun. Love that ending & the music. I have this same (or similar?) dragonfly in my garden and ironically just photographed it yesterday. My goal is to try to photograph every dragonfly that comes to visit the garden. It is interesting once you track them down with camera, I find they begin to rest and then you can get very close, as you say, and they don't mind.

At the bottom of my yard (down a steep hill) is a tiny creek which supports a marsh of cattail plants. I think the dragonflies like this area and venture up to my garden for diversion. I was just out and a different dragonfly whizzed by. It was much smaller and much more orange than the fellow in these photos. I will try to go out and capture it on digital film! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
