Aubergine

Gardeners with digital cameras are a lot like new parents. We take lots of photos of our baby vegetables and anticipate seeing them grow to maturity.

My tiny eggplant is about the size of my thumb. Look at that fabulous color of purple. I'm sure it looks just like its mom!

I know what you mean. Even without a camera I'm a shocker. I see the plant begin to flower and I want it to mature overnight. I get so desperate that I begin to become impatient with it wondering what's taking so long...

Awesome aubergine (we call them eggplants because we're not as sophisticated) but do call purple paint 'Aubergine' - go figure!

These are one of the greatest vegetables and they always look good growing in the vegie patch. I hope you will show us them when they've finally grown up.

How true! And then years down the road, we think, "What was so special about this moment in our kid's life that we took a picture of it?!" Can't tell you how many pictures of "indeterminate green leaf" I have saved on the computer... :)
